Why were you taxed?

Your PPI, Packaged Bank Account, Payday Loan, or Car Finance payout included statutory interest compensation. Interest gains are subject to income tax depending on your annual income and the tax allowances you are eligible for. Rather than looking at every individual circumstance, the bank withheld 20% from all compensation and paid it directly to HMRC.

How do I know if I was taxed?

When your bank or lender upheld your claim, they would usually issue you with a Final Response Letter. Within this letter was details of the compensation you would receive, inclusive of how much tax was being deducted. If you no longer have a copy of this letter, or you used a claims company and did not receive the letter directly, you can request the information from your bank or lender.

How can you claim your refund?

You can claim your refund by contacting HMRC directly and completing all the necessary forms on the government website or by post.

Alternatively, you can use our online application to start your claim today.

When will I receive my refund?

HMRC will often send you a letter informing you that you are due a refund for overpaid taxes and that the payment will be sent to us. HMRC do not issue the payment cheque to us until at least 14-days after you have received this letter.

We will send you a payment link within 48-hours of receiving the payment from HMRC.

I don’t remember signing up

Can I receive my refund by cheque?

Electronic transfer is our preferred method of payment as it keeps your money safe and helps to prevent fraud.

I have a problem with my payment link

To ensure compliance with Anti-Money Laundering Regulation and to prevent fraud, we require you to upload an image of your photo ID.

Accepted forms of ID are:

  • Driving license (Photocard)
  • Passport

If you do not have either of these, then the following can be accepted:

  • UK driving license old style paper form & utility bill dated within last 3 months (picture taken side by side as one image)
  • Firearm or Shotgun license
  • UK Birth certificate & utility bill/bank statement dated within the last 3 months at current address
  • Marriage certificate for name change after marriage and current passport/driving license
  • National Identity card / various ones issued in UK acceptable if name and D.O.B is visible
  • Residence card for UK & utility bill / bank statement dated within the last 3 months side by side uploaded as one image.
